TRAVEL TIME ON THE MOTOR COACH
Below is a brief summary of the itinerary. For a full description, see "Itinerary". The hours in parentheses ( ) indicate time on the motor coach between stops.
DAY 1 - Overnight flight from the U.S.A. to Europe.
DAY 2 - Arrive at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport. Meet your tour manager and transfer (1 hr) through the neatly-groomed Dutch Lowlands to your hotel in Rotterdam followed by a welcome dinner. (Dinner)
DAY 3 - This morning travel (½ hr.) to Delft for a morning visit. Continue to Amsterdam (1 hr.) for an independent lunch and individual exploration. Return (1 hr.) to your Rotterdam area hotel for an included dinner (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 4 - Depart Rotterdam and travel through the Netherlands towards Belgium (1¼ hr). After a morning stop, continue to historic Antwerp (1¾ hr). Free time in Antwerp. Then, travel (2½ hrs) to Margraten, site of the American WWII Cemetery. Continue (¾ hr) to your hotel in Maastricht, Belgium and Germany. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 5 - Cross the border into Germany's North Rhine area (2 hrs). Take a break, before continuing (1 hr) through the Rhine River Valley to Boppard. Board a river boat for a 1½-hr upstream cruise on the legendary, castle-lined Rhine River. After disembarkation, proceed (2 hrs) to the old town of Heidelberg. Transfer (¼ hr) to your hotel in Schriesheim. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 6 - Scenic travel (2½ hrs) to the beautifully-preserved, medieval, walled town of Rothenburg. After a generous visit in Rothenburg, follow the Romantic Road (1¼ hr) and pause in one of the charming, old-world villages. Continue (1¼ hr) to Adelsried for overnight. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 7 - Motor (1½ hr) to the elegant Bavarian capital of Munich for a panoramic tour and free time in the pedestrian-only old town, with opportunity to visit the famous Hofbräuhaus. Cross the border into Austria, and follow the Inn River (2¼ hrs) to the Imperial City of Innsbruck. Free time for independent sightseeing in Innsbruck. Proceed to a nearby Tyrolean village (½ hr) , for a two-night stay. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 8 - Free day to explore on your own. Or, join the optional, full-day Bavarian Palace excursion during which you will take the Seefeld pass to Linderhof Palace (1¾ hr). Continue to the village of Obergammergau (½ hr). Return to your Tyrolean Village (2 hrs). Independent dinner or join the optional Tyrolean Show & Dinner excursion (½ hr transfer, each way). DAY 9 -Cross the spectacular Europa Brücke (Bridge) through the Dolomites (2 hrs). After the customary morning break, continue to subtropical Lake Garda (2 hrs) . Free time for independent lunch and relaxation. Continue (1¼ hr) to legendary Verona of Romeo & Juliet fame. After independent dinner, transfer (½ hr) from Verona to your hotel. (Breakfast)
DAY 10 - Head to Venice (2 hrs). Water taxi to St. Mark Square. Guided walking tour, including glass blowing demonstration. Afternoon free, with opportunity for a Gondola ride (about $45 p.p. based on 6 people per gondola) through the canals and under the bridges of Venice. Have dinner on your own, or join the optional Venice Dinner excursion. Return (2 hrs) to Verona. (Breakfast).
DAY 11 - A full day of travel to the Eternal City of Rome. Travel times today are 1½ hr to the morning rest stop, 2 hrs to the lunch stop, 1 hr to the afternoon stop and 2 hrs to Rome. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 12 - Morning motor coach tour of Rome with a local guide (3 hrs). Optional afternoon Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel excursion. Optional Rome Dinner excursion followed by transfer (½ hr) to Rome hotel. (Breakfast)
DAY 13 - Transfer (½ hr) to Rome for a free morning or join the optional Colosseum excursion. After lunch time in Rome, travel North (2 hrs) to the afternoon stop, before continuing (2 hrs) to your Tuscany hotel in Montecatini-Terme. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 14 - Morning ride (1 hr) to Pisa, with its famous Leaning Tower. Around 11 am, leave Pisa for the beautiful Byzantine city of Florence (1½ hr) where a local guide provides a walking tour followed by free time. Toward dinner time, return (1 hr) to Montecatini-Terme. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 15 - Travel north (2½ hrs), with a morning stop. Continue (2 hrs) to Lugano, Switzerland. With its stunning lake-side setting against the Swiss Alps, this is a perfect spot for a lunch break. Travel (1¾ hr) through the William Tell country of the Swiss Alps. Then, proceed (1 hr) to the beautiful Swiss Lake District for a two-night stay. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 16 - Short ride (½ hr) to the mountain resort of Stans this morning , with opportunity to take an optional Swiss Mountain funicular ride. On to Lucerne (½ hr) for sightseeing and the optional Swiss Lake Boat Ride excursion. Rreturn (½ hr) to your Lake Lucerne Region hotel. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 17 - To Basel (1½ hr), at the conjunction of Switzerland, Germany and France. Cross the border into the Alsace Region of France (2 hrs). Arrive Beaune by mid-afternoon (1½ hr) to check-in and explore this medieval village in the Burgundy wine region. (Breakfast)
DAY 18 - Depart Beaune to a morning stop (2 hrs), then continue to Paris (2½ hrs). The remainder of the day is yours to explore Paris. Optional Paris Evening excursion (¾ hr transfer in each direction). (Breakfast)
Day 19 - Free day in Paris to pursue your personal interests and . . . of course, shopping at the renowned Parisian boutiques, department stores and open air markets. In the morning join your tour manager for an optional Seine River Cruise. In the evening there is an optional Paris Dinner and Cabaret Show excursion. (Breakfast)
DAY 20 - Transfer (½ hr) to the train station. In less than 3 hours, the high-speed Eurostar train will take you under the English Channel to the British coast and onward to London. Afternoon sightseeing tour (3 hrs) of London. (Breakfast, Dinner )
DAY 22 - Transfer (2 hrs) to London Heathrow Airport for the return flight home. (Breakfast)
